In 2022, Lao PDR embarked on a project to conduct a CRVS-related inequality assessment, through technical and capacity strengthening in demographic skills.  Through a partnership with Lao Statistics Bureau (LSB) and UNFPA Lao PDR, two capacity building workshops were organized and attended by delegates from ministries engaged in the CRVS system.  The final inequality assessment report was published in 2023 and provides an overview of civil registration completeness in Lao PDR and the drivers behind low birth registration. 

Based on key findings from CRVS-related inequality assessment, relevant national stakeholders with support from ESCAP, will identify relevant recommendations and policy implications to generate strategic action areas.

The national capacity building workshop will engage a core group of CRVS and/or demographic data producers, data users, decisionmakers and other relevant stakeholders in Lao PDR.  Intended outcomes of the workshop include improved understanding of the ‘Evidence 2 Action (E2A)’ processes, the identification of selected priority action area(s) and policy implications and the generation of a draft strategic action plan.
